GUWAHATI: The Rotary Club of Dispur, in collaboration with down town hospital, recently organised a crucial seminar on coping with adolescent stress and anxiety related to addiction.
The event, held at the hospital’s auditorium, was in alignment with Rotary International’s 2024 theme, “Creating Hope in the World”, and attracted a large audience of parents, educators, and healthcare professionals.
The seminar was inaugurated by Padmashree Manash Chaudhuri, a distinguished journalist, former cabinet minister of Meghalaya, and past district governor of Rotary International District.
In his keynote address, Chaudhuri underscored the importance of creating supportive environments for young people facing mental health challenges and highlighted the vital role of community efforts in addressing these issues.
The event featured insightful presentations from experts of down town hospital including Dr Prabir Thakuria, Consultant Psychiatrist and Gariasi Dutta, Psychological Counsellor & Certified Mindfulness Practitioner, among others.
Thakuria’s talk, titled, “Addiction – Facts and Myths”, debunked common misconceptions about addiction, while Dutta spoke on “Conflict Management with Adolescents”.
In another address, Tanzuma Zaman, Clinical Psychologist, explored the intricate relationship between emotions, personality traits, and addiction.
The seminar was particularly relevant for teachers and parents of teenagers, equipping them with essential knowledge and tools to support young people navigating mental health challenges and addiction.
The attendees engaged actively in a lively Q&A session, where the experts addressed various concerns and provided practical advice.
Dr A.K. Hazarika, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Dispur, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speakers, participants, and organisers for their contributions to the success of the seminar.
