GUWAHATI: At least two persons were injured after a Ro-Pax vessel named MV Bob Khathing collided with several cargo-laden ferries at Jogomaya Ghat in Assam’s Dhubri on July 22.
The incident occurred around 9:30 am Ro-Pax ferry, operated by the Indian Water Transport Authority, was en route Dhubri Jogomaya Ghat from Fakirganj.
The vessel reportedly suffered a mechanical failure causing the hydraulic brakes to lock unexpectedly.
A strong river current forced the ferry to drift backward, resulting in the collision with six to seven cargo vessels and a passenger ferry despite attempts by the crew on board to control it.
As per reports, the collision caused substantial damage to the lower portions of the cargo boats.
The two individuals who sustained injuries in the accident were rushed to Dhubri Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to assess the full extent of the damage and identify any potential safety lapses.
