Guwahati: Raj Bhavan Assam, under the leadership of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, hosted a special programme to celebrate the foundation day of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram at the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University auditorium on Sunday, showcasing the cultural diversity and heritage of these two states.
The governor, in his address, emphasised that the celebration of foundation days for various states aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative.
He noted that this initiative underscores India’s rich cultural heritage and strengthens mutual cooperation, harmony, and unity across states.
“Celebrating statehood days gives citizens a chance to explore and understand the diverse traditions, languages, folk arts, heritage, and historical contributions of other states, thus fostering dialogue and collaboration,” said Acharya.
The governor further elaborated on India’s identity as a “living example of ‘Unity in Diversity.’”
He pointed out that each state in the nation brings unique traditions, languages, art, and culture to the collective fabric of India, making diversity one of the country’s greatest strengths.
“Unity in diversity is India’s hallmark, and it has set our country apart on the global stage,” he added.
Acharya also took the opportunity to highlight the strategic importance of Arunachal Pradesh, commending the state’s role in safeguarding India’s borders.
He praised the army, paramilitary forces, and local citizens for their unwavering dedication, noting that the bravery and patriotism exhibited by these groups remain a source of inspiration for the nation.
Turning to Mizoram, Acharya celebrated the state’s rich cultural heritage, particularly its music, dance, and social harmony.
He also lauded Mizoram’s ability to preserve traditional values while embracing modernity.

The governor acknowledged the state’s lush natural landscapes—its hills, rivers, waterfalls, and forests—and praised Mizoram’s exemplary contributions to environmental conservation and wildlife protection.
“Mizoram plays a crucial role in balancing India’s climate and maintaining the country’s environmental health,” he stated.
The celebration was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Biswajit Daimary; Gauhati High Court Justice Michael Zothankhuma; Joint Secretary Bidit Das; Vice-Chancellor of KKHS Open University, Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das; Additional Resident Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Dilip Kumar Chutia; and Vice President of Nyishi Elite Society, Er. Toko Onujalong.
Together, they honoured the cultural contributions and unique identities of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, reinforcing the importance of understanding and respecting the diverse cultures within India.
