GUWAHATI: Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, alleging that he used a “body double” during his Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra’s Assam leg.
Chief Minister Sarma claimed to have evidence supporting his allegation, stating that the individual, identified as Kurukshetra from Madhya Pradesh, accompanied Gandhi during the yatra in Assam.
“After a news publication exposed the situation, the individual promptly boarded a flight from Guwahati to Delhi, and subsequently to Madhya Pradesh,” he told the press.
Providing additional details, Sarma revealed that the person had accompanied Gandhi from Manipur, traveling alongside him in the bus until Nagaon in Assam.
However, upon discovering that his identity had been compromised in Byrnihat, the individual was swiftly sent out of the state by the Congress.
“In Assam, he was in Rahul Gandhi’s bus. He came up to Nagaon. That day, when he was in Byrnihat and knew that his identity was compromised, the Congress sent him from Assam,” he said.

He further disclosed that photographs of the individual had been procured, stressing that the Congress swiftly relocated him out of Assam upon learning of the compromised identity.
“I am prepared to provide you with his phone number and the particulars of the alleged body double. However, I refrained from disclosing them earlier as it was advised that it might not reflect well,” he added.
Meanwhile, shifting his focus to the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state, Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP-led alliance’s prospects, predicting a victory in 13 seats.
He underscored the importance of electing Narendra Modi as Prime Minister again, stating that the upcoming election is about choosing Modi’s leadership over individual candidates.
Sarma asserted that in Dibrugarh, Sarbananda Sonowal, a prominent BJP leader, is poised to win by a significant margin of 3 lakh votes, highlighting the BJP’s strong foothold in the region.
