GUWAHATI: During his West Bengal leg of the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that he’s “perfectly okay” with Sarma leaving the Grand Old Party.

Responding to press’ questions about the perceived “collapse” of the Congress and the departure of leaders like Sarma and Milind Doera, Rahul Gandhi stated, “I want people like Himanta and Milind to leave. I am perfectly okay with it. Himanta represents a particular type of politics that is not Congress’ politics. Have you seen some of the statements Himanta makes about Muslims? There are certain values that I would like to defend,” as revealed in a video uploaded to his social media account on Friday.

Earlier, a flurry of accusations erupted between Gandhi and Sarma during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s Assam leg.

Chief Minister Sarma had accused Gandhi of attempting to incite unrest in the state on January 22, to which Gandhi had labelled Sarma as the “most corrupt CM” in India.

Meanwhile, adding a bizarre twist to the ongoing political feud, Sarma claimed on Friday that the Assam Police had identified a “body double” allegedly used by Gandhi during his yatra in the state.

Sarma stated that information about the “body double” would be disclosed to the press after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit, post February 4.

“We have registered two cases against Rahul and other Congress leaders. The Jorhat case is being investigated by the district police, while, for the Guwahati case, Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and they are working on it. We have identified the body double which was used by Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state. Once Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes back, I will brief the media on that through a press conference,” Sarma informed the press.
