GUWAHATI: Visitors and officials at Janata Bhawan in Dispur can now enjoy fresh dairy products with the inauguration of a Purabi Milk Booth at the entrance of the government complex.
Northeast India’s largest dairy cooperative, Purabi, launched the prefabricated booth on December 18, bringing quality dairy products closer to the heart of Assam’s capital.
The booth was inaugurated by Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Additional Chief Secretary, in the presence of Aruna Rajoria, APC and Chairman of ARIAS Society, and Virendra Mittal, State Project Director, ARIAS Society.
The event, organised by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and the newly formed North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture between the Government of Assam and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), marks a significant step in improving access to dairy products in the region.
Set up under the World Bank-funded APART Project, the milk booth offers a variety of Purabi products, including milk, lassi, flavoured milk, ice cream, curd, ghee, paneer, and fresh cream.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy said the initiative aligns with the Assam government’s efforts to enhance milk production and strengthen the dairy sector.
He highlighted the booth as an example of how modern infrastructure can promote healthier lifestyles while supporting local employment.
The launch of the booth is part of a broader effort to transform the dairy sector in Assam.
In addition to Janata Bhawan, multiple Purabi Milk Booths have been set up in Guwahati at locations such as Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, opposite Assam State Zoo and Botanical Garden, and an Indian Oil petrol pump at Khanapara.
Dedicated Purabi Parlours have also been opened at its premises in Panjabari and Changsari, opposite AIIMS.
The booths, designed with modern aesthetics and operational efficiency, operate under a Company Owned Franchisee Operated (COFO) model.
Plans are underway to transition to Franchisee Owned and Franchisee Operated (FOFO) models, encouraging more entrepreneurs to participate in the initiative.
These booths offer a comprehensive range of dairy products, including toned, standard, and full-cream milk, as well as select products from the Mother Dairy brand, such as butter, cheese, and canned sweets.
This initiative by WAMUL not only improves access to nutritious dairy products but also creates unique business opportunities, reflecting the cooperative’s commitment to revolutionising Assam’s dairy sector and boosting the local economy.
