Guwahati: Hundreds of people took to the streets of Guwahati on Tuesday demanding justice for iconic singer Zubeen Garg, whose mysterious death in Singapore continues to stir emotions across Assam.
The protest, spearheaded by the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) and supported by 25 indigenous and student organisations, began at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara and saw a strong turnout from supporters and fans.
AJYCP president Palash Changmai criticised the delay in the investigation, questioning the conflicting statements made by authorities.
“It’s been 47 days since Zubeen Garg’s death, yet we have no clear answers. The SIT says the probe is ongoing, but the Chief Minister himself has said it was murder. Why isn’t the SIT holding a press conference to share the facts?” he asked.
Changmai accused the administration of concealing crucial details and urged the government to ensure transparency and accountability.
He warned that if the authorities fail to provide updates soon, the AJYCP would intensify its agitation through a statewide movement.

Garg, one of Assam’s most beloved singers and cultural icons, died on September 19 in Singapore while swimming at a beach.
He was there to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival.
Following widespread outrage, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the CID was formed to probe the incident after more than 60 FIRs were filed across the state.
The Assam government has also constituted a one-man judicial inquiry commission, headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court, to investigate the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death.
