Chirang (Assam): As part of the ongoing Good Governance Week celebrations, a district-level workshop on governance reforms and best practices was held on Monday at the District Commissioner’s Office conference hall.
The week-long initiative, which began on December 19 and concludes on December 24, is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen-centric governance at the grassroots level.
The workshop commenced with District Commissioner Jatin Bora addressing officers and staff.
In his keynote, Bora highlighted the pivotal role of good governance in ensuring efficient administration and fostering trust between the government and the public.
He stressed the importance of adopting a citizen-first approach, focusing on transparency and responsiveness.

Retired ACS officer Carol Narzary, the event’s special guest, shared insights drawn from decades of public service.
He underscored the importance of public consensus and accountability in governance, emphasising the role of social audits in maintaining transparency and strengthening public trust.
A key feature of the workshop was a presentation by Chirang’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) on the district’s involvement in the pilot project SETU (Sustainable Empowerment through Transforming Ultra Poor in Assam).
Chirang is one of two districts in Lower Assam selected for this program, which aims to improve service delivery and foster greater engagement with citizens.

The Nodal Officer for Good Governance provided an overview of various initiatives undertaken at the district level to promote effective governance.
He outlined strategies for enhancing transparency, responsiveness, and accountability across government departments.
Departmental heads also shared updates on their efforts to improve public access to government services and ensure accountability in operations, showcasing successful initiatives implemented in their respective domains.
The workshop concluded with a collaborative discussion on bolstering governance frameworks to ensure that the principles of good governance translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
The event, attended by officials from various government departments, is seen as a significant step toward fostering an efficient and people-centric administration in Chirang.
