Guwahati (Assam): A stringent prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, has been issued by Amitabh Basumatary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Guwahati, to safeguard the security and tranquility of the Raj Bhawan and its surroundings.

The order, effective immediately, restricts unauthorised movement and specific activities within a one-km radius of Raj Bhawan, the official residence of the Governor of Assam.

This measure addresses potential threats posed by individuals or groups whose actions could disrupt the high-security zone.

Key provisions of the order include the prohibition of vehicle or individual movements without authorisation, the assembly of more than five people, and any protests, rallies, or demonstrations unless prior approval is obtained from competent authorities.

Additionally, the use of loudspeakers, fireworks, or any noise-producing instruments is banned in the area without prior permission.

Construction or any disruptive activity within the vicinity that may impede security is also strictly forbidden.

Violations of the order will result in legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The order remains in force for two months from the date of issuance or until further notice, whichever comes earlier.

Individuals aggrieved by the order may file written objections with the Deputy Commissioner for consideration of cancellation or modification.

Highlighting the critical importance of the Raj Bhawan as a site for essential government functions, the deputy commissioner emphasised the necessity of these preventive measures to maintain peace, security, and order in the area.
