GUWAHATI: The prime accused in a major arms haul case was apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Monday, according to officials.
The suspect, who had been on the run, is believed to be part of a group involved in the recovery of a significant stash of arms and ammunition on December 25, which also led to the arrest of two individuals in Kokrajhar.
The arrest was made during the ongoing “Operation Praghat,” a coordinated operation launched by the STF with support from the Kokrajhar police, STF IGP Parthasarathi Mahanta confirmed.
The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Gazi Rahman, a resident of the Bhodeyaguri area in Kokrajhar.
Further investigation into the case is underway, and appropriate legal actions are being pursued, Mahanta added.
He emphasised that the STF is fully committed to ensuring justice and is continuing efforts to apprehend all individuals involved in the case.

On December 25, two suspected members of a terror network were arrested, along with a large cache of arms and ammunition, in the Namapara area of Kokrajhar.
Earlier, on the night of December 17-18, Assam Police had arrested eight individuals, including one Bangladeshi national, in a series of inter-state operations, successfully dismantling an attempt to establish sleeper cells for carrying out subversive activities across the country.
“Operation Praghat” is a continuing multi-state initiative targeting alleged terrorists, extremists, and terror networks operating in the region.
