Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the post-mortem examination of popular singer Zubeen Garg’s body has been completed in Singapore.
Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, “His mortal remains are now being handed over to the accompanying team — Shri Shekar Jothi Goswami, Shri Sandeepan Garg, and Shri Siddharth Sharma (Manager) — in the presence of officials from the Indian Embassy.”
His mortal remains will be handed over to Indian authorities and we shall begin the process of bringing him home, the chief minister added.
The Indian High Commission in Singapore will make all necessary arrangements to repatriate Zubeen’s mortal remains to India.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita said that the exact time of the body’s arrival has not yet been confirmed.
The Union Minister explained that Singapore’s laws are very stringent, and the repatriation of mortal remains will be allowed only after completing all legal formalities and obtaining the necessary NOCs. “Hence, it remains uncertain when Zubeen’s mortal remains will arrive in Assam,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Assam government on Friday instructed to postpone the half-yearly examinations of schools slated for Saturday following the death of singer Zubeen Garg.
