GUWAHATI: Anand Mishra, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who recently made headlines by tendering his resignation, reportedly met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat in Assam’s Majuli on the night of December 27.
Amidst swirling rumours suggesting that Mishra might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following his resignation from the IPS earlier in the week, this meeting has heightened curiosity about the IPS officer’s potential future political affiliations.
Speaking to the press post the meeting, Mishra clarified that his visit was not specifically to meet the RSS chief. Upon learning of Bhagwat’s presence, he went to greet him, highlighting that there was no ulterior motive behind the meeting.

According to the local press, Bhagwat arrived at the Uttar Kamalabari Satra in Majuli on Wednesday night. Shortly after his arrival, Mishra, currently serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Lakhimpur, was spotted arriving at the satra and subsequently met Bhagwat at the satra’s guest house.
Earlier on December 26, Mishra tendered his “unconditional resignation” from service, as announced through a letter addressed to the Assam chief secretary on Tuesday evening.
In the resignation letter, Mishra, an Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer, expressed his decision to resign from the service to lead a life of “freedom and independence”. He requested the Assam government to release him on January 16.
“This is to submit my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realise through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS,” stated the resignation letter.
Mishra’s sudden resignation came as a big surprise for most of the people in the corridors of power in Dispur. He has been well-known in Assam for his pro-active role in fighting the war against drugs, gold and cattle smuggling.
The IPS officer, who served as Superintendent of Police in Dhubri, Nagaon and Lahimpur, has millions of followers on the social media, and his loved by the local people for his prompt policing abilities.
