Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on September 8 to attend several government programmes.

“On September 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam and he will attend three government programmes,” CM Sarma said.

PM Mod will visit Assam on September 8 to participate in the inauguration of the year-long birth centenary celebration of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika.

During the visit, the prime minister will lay the foundation of several mega infrastructure projects worth Rs 8,000 crore, including the Darrang medical college, a bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Kuruwa in Darrang and Narengi in Guwahati, and the Guwahati ring road.

Modi is likely to perform the ceremonial launch of these projects in a public meeting at the Government Sericulture Farm at Kamarpara near Mangaldai.

Chief Minister Sarma made the announcement during his sudden visit to the proposed site of the public meeting recently, where more than 146 bighas of land have already been allotted for the proposed 430-bed medical college, which is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 572 crore.

CM Sarma had earlier said that PM Modi would visit Numaligarh in Assam’s Golaghat district to inaugurate India’s first bio-ethanol plant at Numaligarh Refinery.

“The Prime Minister will first visit Numaligarh. He will then move to Mangaldai where he will address the public meeting before leaving to attend the birth anniversary function of Bhupenda in Guwahati,” the Chief Minister said.
