Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam’s Barak Valley on March 14 and will lay foundation stone of the Silchar-Guwahati Express Highway. He will also launch several other infrastructure projects in the Barak Valley.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this while addressing media persons during the inauguration of the Cachar unit of Star Cement on Friday. He said that the expressway will reduce travel time between Barak Valley and Guwahati from over eight hours to just four-and-a-half hours.
CM Sarma said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Barak valley on March 14. He will lay foundation to the Silchar-Guwahati Express Highway. This highway from Panchgram to Guwahati via Borapani will reduce travel time to about four and a half hours. The tender work for the project is complete, wildlife board clearance has been obtained and a large portion of land acquisition has already progressed. The construction will also begin soon.”

The chief minister added that PM Modi will also inaugurate the long-awaited Silchar flyover during the visit, boosting urban mobility in the region ahead of assembly elections due in a few months.
Meanwhile, in a post on ‘X’, he said, “March 14 , 2026 – Save the Date. Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji will kickstart work on the ambitious Silchar-Guwahati Expressway. This game changer project is the first among the transformative expressway network we are building in the North East.”
On the other hand, CM Sarma inaugurated the Cachar unit of Star Cement today, describing it as a major step towards accelerating industrial growth and creating new job opportunities for the youth in the Barak Valley. Highlighting the significance of the project, the chief minister said the new facility reflects “the face of a new Assam where industrialisation is laying the foundation of prosperity and growth.”
