Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday highlighted a significant shift in the state’s socio-political landscape, noting that the violent agitations of the past have been replaced by constructive movements promoting books, culture, and sports.
Speaking at the National Youth Day program organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha (BJYM), Sarma said Assam’s progress is evident in its growing recognition on global platforms.
“Since our government assumed office in 2021, we have been working tirelessly to position Assam among the leading states in the country. It is heartening to see Assam featured among the top 52 global destinations in a prestigious list published by The New York Times,” he stated.
The chief minister expressed optimism about the future, saying, “We are building an Assam filled with hope and dreams, and I am confident that our youth will take the state to greater global heights.”
Sarma also emphasised the transformation in the nature of movements within the state.
He remarked that earlier agitations involving strikes, picketing, and violence have now given way to campaigns focused on intellectual, cultural, and athletic pursuits.
Addressing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Sarma criticised those who opposed it, accusing them of spreading misinformation.
“Some intellectuals had claimed that lakhs of illegal infiltrators would benefit from the CAA. However, BJP had assured the public that this would not happen, and we have been proven right. Our government continues to push back infiltrators at the international border almost daily, yet these critics remain silent,” he said.

The chief minister called upon the youth to become agents of positive change and draw inspiration from the teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
“When I think of revival, the image of Swami Vivekananda comes to mind. Assam, once marred by instability, is now moving steadily toward progress, guided by the energy of his principles,” Sarma concluded.
