Guwahati: Assam is gearing up for a grand cultural spectacle in November, with more than 10,000 performers set to present the traditional Bodo folk dance ‘Bagurumba’ in what is being planned as a record-scale performance.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, announcing the event on Saturday, said it will follow the massive successes of the state’s Bihu and Jhumoir showcases.
“After the massive success of Bihu and Jhumoir, it’s time for Bagurumba to take the centrestage. Come November, over 10,000 performers will display this beautiful dance to the entire world and add more glitter to our Bodo community’s heritage,” he posted on X.
The event, titled ‘Mega Bagurumba’, will feature dancers from 26 districts and aims to spotlight the cultural richness of Assam’s Bodo community.
Minister for Cultural Affairs Bimal Bora chaired a review meeting on preparations, covering aspects such as costumes, instruments, and master trainers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended both the record-setting Bihu performance in April 2023 — where 11,304 dancers and drummers entered the Guinness World Records — and the Jhumoir event held in February this year.
The Bagurumba performance, organisers say, is intended to be another milestone in taking Assam’s cultural heritage to the global stage.
