Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) introduced 11 new train services in 2025, significantly expanding rail connectivity across the Northeast and adjoining regions, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an official statement, the new services have been aimed at improving passenger convenience while strengthening links between key destinations in the region and the rest of the country.
A major highlight of the year was the introduction of direct rail connectivity to Mizoram, bringing the state firmly onto India’s railway map.
Rail services to Sairang in Mizoram began in September with the launch of the weekly Sairang–Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express.
This was followed by the introduction of the Guwahati–Sairang Express as a daily service and the Kolkata–Sairang Express operating three days a week.
NFR also expanded services within Assam and neighbouring states.
The Guwahati–North Lakhimpur Jan Shatabdi Express was introduced as a bi-weekly service, while a daily passenger train between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati was added.
The Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express began operating on a tri-weekly basis, improving connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh.
