The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the operation of five pairs of Holi special trains between February 17 and March 28, 2026, to manage the expected surge in passenger movement during the festival season.
According to NFR, each special train will make six trips in both directions, providing additional connectivity across key routes linking the Northeast with northern and eastern India.
The services will cover the Narangi–Gorakhpur, Katihar–Amritsar, Dibrugarh–Jaynagar, New Jalpaiguri–Muzaffarpur and Kishanganj–Lalkuan corridors.
The first service, Train No. 05974 on the Dibrugarh–Jaynagar route, will commence operations on February 17.
The special trains will run on fixed weekdays and continue on a weekly basis until late March, offering direct and time-bound travel options for passengers heading home for Holi.

Railway officials said the initiative is aimed at easing pressure on regular services and ensuring smoother travel for festival-goers.
Details regarding stoppages and timings have been made available on the IRCTC website, as well as through NFR’s official communication platforms.
At the national level, Indian Railways has announced that around 1,500 special train services will be operated across the country during Holi this year, a significant increase from 1,144 services last year, reflecting the scale of festive travel demand.
Passengers have been advised to check schedules in advance through official railway channels.
