GUWAHATI: In a bid to enhance safety and efficiency in train operations, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has embarked on an initiative to install Dual Gate Phones at Level Crossing (LC) gates throughout its network.
This new system aims to mitigate the duration of gate phone failures that often cause operational issues, CPRO of NF Railway Sabyasachi De said in a press statement.
The release stated that the initiative will facilitate seamless communication between gatemen and station masters, ensuring timely coordination.
Out of the total 1,447 level crossing gates under the jurisdiction of the NF Railway, 1,030 gates have been equipped with dual gate phones, it said.
Besides, non-interlocked Level Crossing gates have been equipped with voice recording facilities. This measure is a testament to NFR’s dedication to enhancing railway efficiency and passenger safety, the release said.
In Assam, as many as 290 gates in the Rangiya division, 163 gates in the Lumding division, 284 gates in the Tinsukia division, 40 LC gates in the Katihar division, and 253 gates in the Alipurduar Division have already been provided with dual gate phones, it said.
In June 2024, eight LC gates in the Katihar division and four LC gates in the Rangiya division were provided with voice recording facilities, CPRO De further said in the statement.
