GUWAHATI: The North East India Petroleum Dealers’ Association (NEIPDA), Greater Guwahati Unit, has announced a complete shutdown of all retail outlets within its jurisdiction from 5.00 am on March 30 until 5.00 am on April 1.
During this 48-hour period, oil depots in the greater Guwahati area are expected to remain closed, worsening the inconvenience faced by consumers.
This decision comes amidst mounting frustration over the lack of enhancement and revision in dealers’ commissions since 2017, sparking concerns over the sustainability of their trade.
In a press release issued by the association on Thursday, stressed that the decision to strike stems from the persistent silence of oil companies in response to their grievances.
The statement highlighted the dire circumstances faced by dealers, stating, “…It has become extremely difficult for the dealers to continue the trade.”
The announcement of the shutdown follows a unanimous resolution made during a General Meeting held at the association’s office in Uzan Bazar in Guwahati, on Thursday.
The NEIPDA has invited questions and clarifications regarding the strike on Friday at their registered Guwahati office, signalling their readiness to engage in constructive dialogue to address the underlying issues.
As the shutdown looms, consumers and stakeholders alike await further developments, hopeful for a resolution that balances the interests of all stakeholders.
