GUWAHATI: Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma, confidently declared on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies are poised to secure victory in 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the Northeast during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“Out of the 25 seats, NDA will win 22. That’s confirmed. We might not win 3 seats in Assam. The figure might increase to 23 seats for us as well. It’s going to be a simple election (for us). Nothing much to worry about,” he asserted, speaking to the press.

In Assam, the BJP is contesting on 11 seats, while its coalition partners, the Asom Gana Parishad and the United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL), are fielding candidates in two and one seat respectively.

Shifting his attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forthcoming visit to Assam tomorrow, the Chief Minister revealed that Modi is slated to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several significant development projects.

Detailing the itinerary of the visit, Sarma informed that the Prime Minister’s visit will commence with his arrival at Tezpur airport on Friday evening, followed by a direct journey to Kaziranga National Park where will become the first PM to spend at a night at the national park.

Chief Minister Sarma also added that PM Modi will inaugurate the Tinsukia Medical College and lay the foundation stone for Sivasagar Medical College under the PM-DIVINE scheme on Saturday.

Furthermore, he will initiate the expansion of Digboi Refinery and Guwahati Refinery, with costs amounting to Rs 768 crores and Rs 510 crores respectively.

The focal point of the visit will be the inauguration of the Rs 3,992 crores pipeline project stretching from Barauni to Guwahati.
