Guwahati: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has emerged triumphant in the 2025 Assam Panchayat elections, securing a commanding majority across rural governance bodies and reinforcing its political stronghold in the state.
In the Zilla Parishad elections, the NDA coalition clinched 300 out of 376 seats—amounting to more than 76% of the total—reflecting broad-based voter support for the ruling alliance at the grassroots level.
The alliance also dominated the Anchalik Panchayat polls, winning 1,436 of the 2,192 seats contested statewide.
This translates to a vote share of approximately 66% in these local bodies.
The results are being seen as a significant boost for the ruling bloc ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections and a continuation of its successful performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, reacting to the outcome, expressed gratitude to the electorate on social media platform X. He attributed the landslide to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and praised the party’s focus on grassroots development and public welfare.
“These results signify a sharp rise in our rural outreach and people’s trust in our governance model. Compared to the 2018 panchayat elections, we’ve seen a 25% increase in vote share,” Sarma stated.
He also acknowledged the support of BJP national leaders, including J.P. Nadda, Amit Shah, and B.L. Santhosh, for their guidance and role in the campaign.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the people of Assam, describing the win as a “historic mandate.”
“Gratitude to the people of Assam for granting the NDA a historic victory in the Panchayat Election 2025. This victory is an endorsement of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s people-centric policies that have brought about a new era of peace and prosperity in Assam,” Shah wrote on ‘X’
