GUWAHATI: The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) has given its stamp of approval to five essential projects in Assam.
At the forefront of them is the eagerly awaited elevated corridor adjacent to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kaziranga National Park.
Last October, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had directed the National Highway Authority of India to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for this ambitious Rs 6,000-crore project during an event at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Describing the NBWL’s approval as a “significant day for Assam,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to the Centre for its support in advancing the state’s infrastructure goals.
In addition to the elevated corridor, Chief Minister Sarma disclosed that several other crucial projects have also received the green light.
These include the Guwahati Ring Road project, the Deepar Beel Railway Elevated Corridor, the Deepor Beel Elevated Railway Corridor, and the Chapaguri to Amteka Assam Mala project Road extending up to the Bhutan border.
The recent developments in Assam’s infrastructure landscape come on the heels of Union Minister Gadkari’s announcement on February 13, sanctioning Rs 4,502.93 crore for road development projects across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Mizoram.

In Assam specifically, a substantial allocation of Rs 382.10 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a new two-lane highway connecting Majuli and Jorhat on the newly designated NH 715 K.
Furthermore, the construction of a flyover spanning 20.479 km on NH-175, complete with its approaches and service roads, is set to augment the region’s transportation network.
These recent allocations supplement Gadkari’s earlier approval of Rs 3,890.45 crore for the construction of three additional sections of NH-913 in the region on February 6, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to boost infrastructure and connectivity in the Northeast.
