GUWAHATI: In a bid to instil appreciation for nature among young students, a three-day nature camp was organised in Kohora, Karbi Anglong recently.
A total of 23 students hailing from nine villages within the Kaziranga Karbi Anglong landscape enthusiastically participated in the event.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including Sanjay Gogoi, RO, Department of Soil Conservation, Kohora range, KAAC, and Hariram Engti, Social Worker from EnglePathar.
The dignitaries graced the occasion, interacted with participants, and distributed student kits to enhance the students’ experience.
Organised by biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak, in collaboration with Chandrasing Rongpi Memorial High School, the camp had both indoor and outdoor sessions.
Indoor sessions were enriched with insightful presentations by Aaranyak’s experts, covering topics such as image interpretation skills, the Karbi community’s relationship with nature, and wildlife identification.
These sessions aimed to deepen the students’ understanding of nature observation, cultural significance, and appreciation for the natural world.
Outdoor activities were designed to be interactive and stimulating, fostering teamwork and environmental consciousness among participants.
These activities included memory games, nature trails, practical learning sessions on soil characteristics and tree planting, as well as fun-filled games correlating natural resources with Hoolock gibbon voices.
A highlight of the camp was an exciting safari guided by Aaranyak experts, where students immersed themselves in the wilderness and encountered diverse flora and fauna firsthand.
Following the safari, students engaged in creative activities such as poster-making and discussions on endangered species and their habitats, further enriching their learning experience.
The camp concluded on a high note with captivating drama performances by students, showcasing their learnings and experiences creatively.
The success of the event was attributed to the unwavering support and dedication of Aaranyak team members and the Theso Group of Chandrasing Rongpi village.
