Guwahati: Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) played host to a key national workshop on Internet standards and research on August 1, drawing academic participation from across the Northeast.

The event, part of the Advanced Internet Operations Research in India (AIORI) initiative, was aimed at strengthening Internet engineering education and research capabilities in the region.

The “AIORI-2 Train the Trainer Workshop Series” was organised by ADBU’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, under the national AIORI project spearheaded by the India Internet Foundation (IIFON) and the IEEE Industry Academia Young Professionals Committee (IAYPC) – India Council.

The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI).

As one of only 11 workshops being conducted across five zones in India, the ADBU event was the designated workshop for the Northeast zone.

It was held under the regional guidance of Dr. Manojit Ghosh, Assistant Professor at IIIT Guwahati, and coordinated locally by ADBU faculty members Alok Choudhury and Dr. Alexy Bhowmick, with overall direction from Dr. Bobby Sharma, Head of the CSE Department.

Technical sessions were led by Anupam Agrawal, Chair of IIFON, and Anand Raje, Co-founder and CTO of the organisation.

The sessions included lectures on key Internet protocols and standards, alongside hands-on training in the deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices for network measurement and research purposes.

A total of 22 faculty members from 10 different institutions across the region took part in the workshop, reflecting a growing academic interest in Internet technologies and policy.

Organisers described the event as a significant step toward building technical capacity in Internet operations and measurement, especially in emerging academic landscapes like the Northeast.

The workshop is part of a broader effort to enhance India’s digital infrastructure by empowering educators and researchers with the knowledge and tools needed for Internet development and governance.

ADBU’s involvement in the initiative underscores its commitment to contributing to national-level digital education and innovation agendas.
