Guwahati: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said the Motok community has been instrumental in shaping Assam’s cultural, social and national identity over generations.
Addressing the 86th Central Foundation Day of the All Assam Motok Sanmilan in Dibrugarh, Sonowal lauded the community’s steadfast commitment to discipline and resilience, saying these values have consistently strengthened the state’s progress.
“The Motok community is known for its unity, determination and willingness to work hard. When they commit to a goal, they achieve it,” he said.

Calling for collective efforts to build a self-reliant Assam, Sonowal urged youth leaders of the community to focus on excellence in education, scientific innovation, agriculture, sports and cultural heritage.
“A confident and self-reliant Motok society will pave the way for a stronger, self-reliant Assam,” he added.
