Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held detailed discussions on preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections and measures to strengthen the BJP’s organisational base during an interaction with party leaders at the state headquarters here.
Modi spent nearly an hour at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in the Basistha area, where he sought feedback from the state leadership on the government’s performance and public perception.
Leaders present said the interaction was informal and focused on ground-level inputs rather than set speeches.
“There was no formality. He interacted as a party worker with other party members and spoke at length about election preparations,” veteran BJP leader and former state president Narayan Borkotoky told reporters after the meeting.
Another leader said the prime minister chose not to sit on the dais and instead sat among party workers, engaging with them on a range of organisational and political issues.
According to leaders, Modi enquired about the functioning of the party organisation, progress on election preparations and the welfare of senior leaders attending the meeting.

The BJP is aiming for a third consecutive term in Assam in the Assembly polls due early next year.
The closed-door meeting was attended by around 280 leaders, including former state BJP presidents, sitting and former MPs, ministers and MLAs.
State BJP president Dilip Saikia said this was the first visit by a sitting prime minister to the party’s state headquarters.
The Vajpayee Bhawan was inaugurated in October 2022 by BJP president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Modi arrived at the venue after leading a 3.8-km-long roadshow from Sarusajai.
The prime minister is on a two-day visit to Assam and earlier in the day unveiled a statue of Assam’s first chief minister Gopinath Bardoloi and inaugurated a new airport terminal, besides addressing a public gathering.
