Guwahati: Rangia was rocked by a grim discovery recently when the body of 22-year-old Dharmendra Nath, who had been missing for five days, was found in a local pond with his hands and legs tied.
The tragic incident has plunged his family into grief and left the community demanding justice.
Nath had reportedly gone on a picnic with friends last week, but an accident involving his motorcycle and a car spiralled into a violent confrontation.
According to initial reports, a group of 12 men attacked Nath and his companions. While some of his friends managed to flee the scene, Nath was mercilessly beaten, ultimately resulting in his death.
After Nath failed to return home, his family lodged a missing person complaint, leading to an extensive search operation.
The grim culmination of these efforts came with the recovery of his lifeless body on Monday, deepening the mystery.
Police have arrested two individuals, Himangshu Kakati and Amulya Lahkar, in connection with the crime.
“We have arrested two persons and initiated an investigation. They have revealed little about their involvement during interrogation,” a police official told the press.
However, the case has taken a contentious turn, with allegations surfacing that the suspects have influential political connections.
These claims have sparked concerns about potential interference in the investigation, fuelling public outrage and calls for a fair and thorough inquiry.
