Guwahati: Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna will host an Assam Tea Festival at his New York restaurant, ‘Bungalow’ on July 11, as part of the celebrations of 200 years of Assam Tea.
The announcement was made during a recent business roundtable hosted by the Consulate General of India in New York at the Summer Fancy Food Show 2025, where Vikas Khanna attended as the guest of honour.
Taking to social media, Khanna wrote, “Celebrating 200 Years of Assam Tea at Bungalow. In honor of this historic milestone, the traditional Gamusa from Assam now adorns the front of Bungalow — a vibrant symbol of our connection to Assam’s rich heritage.”
“This Friday, join us in celebration as we offer assorted Assam Teas to every guest — a tribute to two centuries of flavor, tradition, and craftsmanship,” he said.
Khanna said, “And to make the day sweeter, we’ll be preparing Tilor Laru — a beloved Assamese delicacy made with sesame and jaggery. Come raise a cup with us.”

Chef Khanna, a globally celebrated culinary icon and founder of New York’s acclaimed restaurant Bungalow, spoke passionately about his long-standing bond with Assam.
Vikas Khanna, with 11 visits to Assam under his belt, spoke about the region, commending its vibrant culture, distinctive teas, and the hospitality of its people.
He emphasized that Assam’s tea, cuisine, textiles, and traditions are crucial elements of India’s cultural diplomacy and deserve continued global celebration.
