Shillong: Two men from Assam were arrested in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district after police recovered more than 54 grams of heroin from their possession, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Meghalaya Police set up a checkpoint at Sohryngkham on the Shillong-Silchar route and intercepted a vehicle on Friday, a police officer said.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of four soap boxes containing a total of 54.13 grams of heroin. The two men, both residents of Silchar, were taken into custody, the officer added.
The seized drugs and the accused have been handed over to the officer-in-charge of Sohryngkham Outpost in East Khasi Hills district for further legal proceedings.
