Guwahati: Mangaluru City Police has arrested two men from Assam in connection with the theft of Rs 20 lakh worth of jewellery and cash from three flats in a Lalbagh apartment.

According to police, the two accused, both from Assam’s Cachar district, were apprehended in Bengaluru on Tuesday (October 21), less than 20 hours after the crime was reported.

The suspects have been identified as Abhijit Das, 24, from Panchagori, and Deba Das, 21, from Meherpur, both hailing from Cachar district in Assam.

Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the duo allegedly broke into the flats sometime between October 19 and 20 by scaling the compound wall and entering through a small kitchen window.

The items stolen included jewellery, Rs 5,000 in cash, 3,000 Dirhams, and a mobile phone.

The theft was reported to Urva police by Riyaz Rashid on October 20, leading to a swift investigation involving senior officials, fingerprint experts, and a dog squad, which helped narrow down the suspects.

The Commissioner confirmed that the accused were traced to and arrested in Bengaluru with the help of the Bengaluru City Police.
