Guwahati: Police have arrested a man from Goalpara district for allegedly circulating pirated clips of Roi Roi Binale, the last film of late music icon Zubeen Garg, just days after its theatrical release.
The accused, identified as Rafiqul Islam, was picked up from Lakhipur for uploading parts of the movie on his YouTube channel, Rafiqul R Vlogs.
He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court and remanded to three days in police custody.
Officials said he is being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case came to light after fans noticed the illegal upload and alerted authorities.
A group of Zubeen Garg’s supporters subsequently lodged a complaint at the Latasil Police Station in Guwahati, prompting swift action from law enforcement.
The incident has triggered outrage among fans and members of the Assamese film fraternity.
Director Rajesh Bhuyan and producer Shyamantak Gautam, addressing the media at the JIL Creations office in Ambikagiri Nagar, expressed deep disappointment, calling the piracy a “major blow” to the regional film industry.
“The unauthorized leak took place within days of release. It’s heartbreaking that such a thing happened with Zubeen Garg’s last work,” they said.
The film, which released on October 31, had generated widespread anticipation among fans.
Police have urged the public not to share or engage with pirated content, while appeals have been made to online platforms to take down the leaked material.
