Silchar: A 30-year-old man from Assam’s Cachar district died after allegedly being assaulted by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the India-Bangladesh border, prompting protests and public outrage in the Katigorah area.
The incident occurred on Friday night in Amtoli village, located in the border region.
The victim, identified as Nirmol Namasudra, reportedly sustained severe injuries after being beaten by BSF jawans and was rushed to a local hospital by the personnel themselves.
Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
The incident has triggered public protests, with angry locals gathering outside the Katigorah Circle Office on Sunday, demanding immediate action against the personnel involved.

Tension continues to simmer in the area despite the administration’s efforts to manage the situation.
A senior official confirmed the allegations against the BSF but stated that, as of now, no formal complaint has been filed by the victim’s family and no FIR has been registered.
The Border Security Force has not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
