Guwahati: With less than six months remaining for the state elections, the Assam government on Wednesday carried out a major administrative reshuffle, transferring 14 IAS and state services officers across key districts and departments.

As per an order issued by the Personnel Department on Wednesday, Aranyak Saikia, 2020-batch IAS officer, was appointed as the new District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong as part of a major administrative reshuffle.

Saikia, who earlier served as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary of Assam, replaces Nirala Phangshopi, a 1995-batch Assam Civil Service officer, who has been transferred as Additional Secretary to the Hill Areas Department.

Aranyak Saikia is the son of former Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia, who headed the state police force in 2019.

As per the order, Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan was transferred and posted as District Commissioner of Tinsukia. Swapneel Paul, the Tinsukia DC, has been posted in Kamrup Metropolitan in place of Sattawan.

Aayush Garg has been transferred from Sivasagar to Cachar, with Mridul Yadav moving from Cachar to Sivasagar.

Dibakar Nath has been transferred from Dhubri to Bongaigaon, while Nabadeep Pathak has been moved from Bongaigaon to Dhubri. Simi Karan, currently serving as joint secretary in the Environment and Forest Department, has been posted as the district commissioner of Tamulpur, replacing Pankaj Chakravarty, who has been transferred to Kokrajhar.

Masanda Magdalin Pertin has been transferred from Kokrajhar and posted as joint secretary in the Finance Department. Pubali Gohain, secretary in the Home and Political Department, has been assigned charge of Darrang district, while Pulak Mahanta has been moved from Golaghat to serve as Inspector General of Prisons. Parag Kumar Kakaty has taken over as district commissioner of Golaghat in place of Mahanta.
