GUWAHATI: Assam-Governor designate Lakshman Prasad Acharya will be sworn in as the Governor of the state on Tuesday.
Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, will administer the oath of office to Lakshman Prasad Acharya at 12.10 pm at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday appointed Lakshman Prasad Acharya as Governor of Assam. He has also been given additional charge of the Governor of Manipur.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has welcomed the appointment of Lakshman Prasad Acharya as the new Governor, stating that the state will benefit from his organizational and legislative experiences.
“I am confident he will be an outstanding Governor for our state. My best wishes on his new assignment,” the chief minister added.
Thanking the outgoing Governor Gulab Chand Kataria for his contribution during his tenure, CM Sarma said that the state and his government have benefited from the outgoing Governor’s counsel and guidance.
Acharya was the 17th Governor of Sikkim from 2023 to 2024. Being affiliated to the BJP, he was a member of the Legislative Council from Uttar Pradesh elected by the members of the Legislative Assembly from 2015 to 2023.
He was also the vice president of the Uttar Pradesh state unit of the BJP and president of Uttar Pradesh Kashi Kshetra BJP.
Acharya was appointed as BJP’s election convener of the Varanasi parliamentary seat, which was contested by PM Narendra Modi during the general elections in 2019.
