GUWAHATI: The Padmanath Gohain Baruah School of Humanities at Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) marked World Poetry Day with a captivating event held at the Conference Hall of its city campus in Khanapara on Thursday.
The occasion was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU, faculty members, officers, employees, and scholars.
Professor Rajendra Prasad Das, the Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU, commenced the event with a warm welcome address, highlighting the profound impact of poetry on individuals’ lives.
He highlighted how poetry serves as a gateway to understanding diverse perspectives and fostering empathy, enriching the human experience.
Dipak Jyoti Baruah, Professor from Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, delivered an insightful lecture on the significance of poetry.
Baruah delved into the mechanics, context, and relevance of poetry, offering a comprehensive exploration of its essence, both globally and in the Assamese context.
The celebration also featured an enchanting recital by renowned poet Anubhab Tulasi, who captivated the audience with his selected poems in Assamese, English, and Hindi.
Tulasi’s evocative verses transcended linguistic barriers, resonating with attendees and highlighting the universal appeal of poetry.
In his concluding remarks, Professor Pranjit Bora, Director of the Padmanath Gohain Baruah School of Humanities and Registrar, recited Subudh Sarkar’s poetry, evoking a sense of nostalgia and reverence.
Dr Neeva Rani Phukan, Associate Professor of Assamese, introduced the invited dignitaries, while Dr Sanjib Bora, Assistant Professor of Assamese, served as the host of the event.
