New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with Assam’s party leaders on Friday (May 30) in New Delhi to discuss strategy ahead of assembly polls in the state next year.

This is the first meeting of the top party leadership with the Assam unit after the appointment of Gaurav Gogoi as the president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

In a post on social media, Rahul Gandhi stated, “Today, under the leadership of Hon’ble President Mallikarjun Kharge ji, met and met with the newly formed Assam Pradesh Congress Committee members at Congress Headquarters Indira Bhavan.”

AICC general secretary K C Venugopal and the party general secretary in-charge for Assam Jitendra Singh were also present during the meeting at the Congress’ new Indira Bhawan headquarters in New Delhi.

Gaurav Gogoi, the newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will formally assume charge as the new state party chief on June 3.

On May 31, Gogoi will arrive in Jorhat from New Delhi. He is scheduled to interact with local Congress workers and the public.

On June 3, Gogoi will reach Guwahati, where he will officially assume charge as APCC President during a function at the Manvendra Sharma Complex.
