Guwahati: On the occasion of World Veterinary Day 2025, JBF (Just Be Friendly) has announced the recipients of its annual animal welfare honours, recognising exceptional contributions to veterinary care and animal rescue in Northeast India.
This year, Dr. Khanin Changmai has been awarded the Animal Welfare Field Veterinarian Award 2025 for his outstanding commitment and long-standing service in the field of animal welfare.
Meanwhile, Saiyam Mazumder has been named the recipient of the Young Animal Rescuer Award 2025, applauded for his passion, dedication, and hands-on efforts in rescuing and protecting animals.
Both awards, instituted by JBF in 2022, aim to spotlight the vital work being done by veterinarians and young rescuers in the region. Previous winners of the Field Veterinarian Award include Dr. Parag Jyoti Deka (2022), Dr. Bhaskar Chaudhary (2023), and Dr. Panjit Basumatary (2024).
Past recipients of the Young Animal Rescuer Award include Dr. Chandamita Das (2022), Ornela Pachuau (2023), and Abhroneel Dey (2024).
The awards will be formally presented on World Zoonoses Day, July 6, 2025.
Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, Founder and Managing Trustee of JBF, emphasised the importance of recognising veterinary talent in a region where animal welfare professionals have historically been limited.

He noted that these awards not only honour existing dedication but also inspire future generations of veterinarians and animal rescuers.
“Celebrating these individuals reinforces the value of compassionate, community-driven veterinary work and motivates young people to take up the cause of animal welfare,” said Dr. Dutta.
In addition to the award announcements, JBF marked World Veterinary Day by amplifying this year’s theme—“Animal Health Takes a Team”—through social media campaigns.
