GUWAHATI: The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Devika Raghuvanshi, inaugurated the newly established Area Accounts Office in Jorhat, on Tuesday.
In her keynote address, Raghuvanshi highlighted the Defence Accounts Department’s historic legacy as one of the oldest departments under the Central Government.
She highlighted the department’s proactive role in implementing technological advancements to meet the evolving needs of the Services.
Raghuvanshi reaffirmed the department’s commitment to delivering efficient, accurate, and timely accounting, payment, audit, and financial advisory services to the defence forces.
She stressed the department’s dedication to ensuring client satisfaction and overcoming inherent challenges.
Addressing logistical challenges faced by units under HQ Spear Corps Dimapur and HQ 41 Sub-Area Jorhat in processing documents, Raghuvanshi stressed on the necessity of establishing the Area Accounts Office in Upper Assam to better serve these units.
The ceremony, hosted by Ambarish Barman, Controller of Defence Accounts, Guwahati, was graced by Major General Deepak Sharma, VSM, GoC 41 Sub-Area, along with senior officers from Defence Services and the District Administration.
Distinguished guests included the District Commissioner, Superintendent of Police of Jorhat, and senior dignitaries from the Army and Air Force.
In his welcome address, Barman highlighted how the new office will enhance operational readiness and financial stability for the concerned units and formations.
Major General Sharma commended the Defence Accounts Department’s efforts, noting that the establishment of the AAO Jorhat is a significant milestone.
He highlighted its potential to support troops in forward areas and improve financial resource management, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
Assistant Controller Sparsh Verma traced the establishment journey of the office, highlighting the strategic importance placed by the government on the region and the department’s efforts to decentralise audit and payment services.
The inauguration marks a pivotal moment in the Defence Accounts Department’s ongoing initiatives to bolster operational efficiency and responsiveness.
