Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway is slated for completion by December 31, 2025.

The announcement followed a meeting between the chief minister and Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), on April 7 in New Delhi.

Taking to X, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Pursuant to my discussion yesterday in Delhi with Dr. Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of @nhidcl, I am happy to share that there is unanimous confidence in completing the Jorhat–Dibrugarh section of the National Highway by 31st December.”

“This marks yet another promise made to the people that will be fulfilled well before the elections,” CM Sarma said.

He said that the Managing Director of NHIDCL had also reviewed the implementation of various infrastructural projects, including the status of the Rs 25,000 crore Guwahati Silchar Expressway, Numalighar Gohpur underwater tunnel, and the expansion of the national highway network from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur and Gohpur to Kulajan.

The Guwahati-Silchar Expressway is expected to cut down travel time and improve connectivity among Assam’s major cities.

During the meeting, the chief minister also requested Dr Kumar to expedite the ongoing highway and bridge projects, including the four-lane 19.28-km-long bridge across the Brahmaputra River between Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya. This, when completed, will be India’s longest bridge.
