“This marks yet another promise made to the people that will be fulfilled well before the elections,” CM Sarma said.
He said that the Managing Director of NHIDCL had also reviewed the implementation of various infrastructural projects, including the status of the Rs 25,000 crore Guwahati Silchar Expressway, Numalighar Gohpur underwater tunnel, and the expansion of the national highway network from Baihata Chariali to Tezpur and Gohpur to Kulajan.
The Guwahati-Silchar Expressway is expected to cut down travel time and improve connectivity among Assam’s major cities.
During the meeting, the chief minister also requested Dr Kumar to expedite the ongoing highway and bridge projects, including the four-lane 19.28-km-long bridge across the Brahmaputra River between Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya. This, when completed, will be India’s longest bridge.
