Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) hosted a high-level diplomatic visit on Monday, with HORII Iwao, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and ONO Keiichi, Ambassador of Japan to India, visiting the institute as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education, research and technology.
During the visit, Minister HORII Iwao praised IIT Guwahati’s rapid growth, expanding research ecosystem and its increasing international collaborations.
He acknowledged the institute’s role in contributing to global innovation and academic excellence.

Ambassador ONO Keiichi, in his interaction with the institute’s leadership, expressed Japan’s commitment to deepening academic exchanges and assured efforts towards facilitating a more streamlined visa process for students and faculty to promote smoother mobility and collaboration between the two countries.
The Japanese delegation toured key research and innovation facilities on campus, including the Centre for Nanotechnology, and interacted with start-ups and innovators at the IIT Guwahati Research Park, gaining insights into ongoing technological research and entrepreneurship initiatives.
Officials said the visit reflects the strengthening India–Japan partnership and a shared commitment to advancing global technological development, innovation-driven education and people-to-people cooperation between the two nations.
