New Delhi: The Assam Police investigation into the FIR against popular YouTubers Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija, and others, concerning alleged obscene and offensive remarks made on the comedy show India’s Got Latent, is expected to conclude by the end of April, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court on Monday.

During a hearing before Justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh, SG Mehta stated that a co-accused would appear on Tuesday to record her statement, bringing the investigation closer to completion.

Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, highlighted his client’s need for his passport to resume international travel for professional purposes.

Chandrachud noted that Allahbadia has cooperated fully with the investigations conducted by both Assam and Maharashtra Police, appearing when summoned.

In response, the bench directed the Assam Police to expedite the probe and inform the court whether Allahbadia’s presence is still required.

The matter was scheduled for a further hearing on April 28.

The controversy revolves around vulgar remarks made during an episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina.

Multiple FIRs were filed in Assam and Maharashtra, with complaints accusing the creators of obscene and offensive content.

The Supreme Court, in an earlier order, had granted Allahbadia interim protection from arrest, on the condition of full cooperation with the investigation.

It also permitted him to resume airing his podcast, provided he adhered to “standards of decency and morality” and refrained from commenting on the sub-judice proceedings.

The court further clarified that no additional FIRs could be filed against Allahbadia regarding the episode in question, which had already prompted multiple legal complaints.
