GUWAHATI: The firing range of 4 Assam Police Battalion in Kahilipara, Guwahati has become the battleground for the Inter Battalion Sports Shooting Championship, a platform that has brought together selected cadets from seven states of the Northeast.
Organised by the 30 Assam Battalion NCC under the aegis of NCC Directorate North East Region (NER), the competition aims to identify the finest marksmen to represent the region in the Inter Directorate Sports Shooting Championship slated to commence from July 2 at Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
A total of 311 carefully chosen cadets are currently participating in the event to secure a coveted spot in the team that will compete at the national level.
From the serene landscapes of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh to the lush valleys of Lungleng in Mizoram and the vibrant terrains of Mokokchung in Nagaland, cadets have travelled far and wide to represent their respective states.
Despite grappling with the encroaching heat and challenging weather conditions, the cadets are brimming with enthusiasm and dedication to represent their states on the national stage.
The competition commenced on April 17, 2024, and is set to culminate on April 25.
In preparation for the upcoming national championship, a selected team of 22 cadets will undergo a three-day practice session at the indoor shooting range in Kahilipara.
This training initiative aims to provide them with exposure to world-class facilities and hone their skills for the fiercely competitive event.
Colonel S. Anup Singh, Commanding Officer of 30 Assam Battalion NCC, expressed his optimism about the cadets’ preparedness, stating, “A 3-day practice will be given to the selected team at the indoor shooting range at Kahilipara to give them exposure to world-class facilities and prepare for the upcoming competition.”
