Guwahati: In a gesture of community outreach, the Red Shield Gunners under the aegis of the Spear Corps marked Holi with children of Nava Rupantar orphanage in Tinsukia, Assam, turning the festival into a day of warmth and shared joy.
Twenty children between the ages of eight and 17 joined the soldiers for the celebrations on Tuesday.
According to the Defence PRO, the occasion was filled with colour, laughter and interaction, as Army personnel spent time playing with the children, engaging in conversations and ensuring they felt included and valued.
Sweets were distributed, and the spirit of Holi as a festival symbolising unity, hope and harmony was highlighted during the interaction.
The PRO said the initiative reflected the Indian Army’s continued commitment to strengthening ties with local communities and encouraging positive engagement with the youth.

The cheerful participation of the children and the camaraderie displayed throughout the event underscored the broader message of togetherness beyond uniforms and boundaries.
In a separate initiative aimed at community empowerment, the Indian Army recently concluded a month-long bakery training programme in Menchuka, Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme was designed to equip civilians with practical skills in baking, including bread and cake preparation, pastry making and maintaining hygiene standards in food processing.
Conducted by Army instructors, the training combined theoretical lessons with hands-on experience.
Fifteen women from the area took part in the course, expressing interest in developing entrepreneurial skills that could help them start small-scale bakery ventures.
The initiative forms part of the Army’s broader efforts to promote self-reliance, generate livelihood opportunities and foster strong civil-military relations in remote border regions.
