GUWAHATI: In a bid to establish its mark on the national and international marathon calendar, Guwahati is readying itself to host the inaugural Guwahati Marathon.
Scheduled for December 3, 2023, the marathon aims to attract a diverse range of participants, from local enthusiasts to international marathon veterans, showcasing Guwahati as a vibrant sporting destination.
The collaborative effort of Coal India Ltd, the Assam government, and the Indian Army, the event will have three distinct races – a half marathon (21.0975 Km), a 10km race, and a 5km run. To further boost participation and competitive spirit, organisers have planned attractive prize money across various age and gender categories.
Details about the marathon such as race routes, specific prize money amounts, and official race logos will be unveiled soon. An official marathon website is also under construction, with online registrations expected to commence by September 20.
Recently, a preparatory conference held recently in Guwahati witnessed the presence of stakeholders, including Nandita Garlosa, Minister for Power, Sports, and Youth Welfare, Lieutenant General Manish Erry of GOC Gajraj Corps, and other high-ranking officials. Procam International Private Limited has stepped in as the promoter, assuring top-notch management of the event.
Coal India Limited will be the title sponsor, while the Indian Army reinforces its commitment to the state by becoming the affirming partner.
