GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the northeastern states of Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura.
The IMD has issued a weather alert as a Low-Pressure Area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal is set to intensify, leading to increased rainfall across East and Central India in the coming week.
An orange alert is issued in case of extremely bad weather. It affects the transport facilities including rail, road, and air.
According to the Met department, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted for Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has forecast enhanced rainfall activity over Assam from August 19 to August 23.
The Centre predicated moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning at most places across the state and isolated heavy rain in several places including Kamrup Metro.
This extended period of intense weather is likely to cause disruptions and potential flooding in certain areas.

Additionally, the northwestern states, including Uttar Pradesh, are on high alert with heavy rainfall anticipated over the next 5 to 7 days.
Other states, including Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and the South Peninsular region will also experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, the IMD stated.
