The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya today.
A spell of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of the Northeast, along with showers in select southern states.
However, for the next five days, dry weather is likely to prevail in almost all northeastern states, with no change in the region’s maximum temperature.
The IMD also reported dense fog in isolated areas of Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal over the past 24 hours. Visibility dropped significantly in several locations, with Barapani in Meghalaya recorded as low as 50 meters.
In Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, towns including Gangtok, Pakyong, and Darjeeling experienced dense fog, with visibility ranging between 50 and 199 meters.
Commuters and local authorities have been advised to exercise caution, as the dense fog may cause disruptions in road, rail, and air traffic in the affected areas.
Along with this, the IMD has also predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperature by two to four degrees Celsius over the plains of Northwest India during the next four days.

The weather agency also predicted hot and humid weather in isolated coastal pockets in the western states early this week. A gradual and widespread rise in daytime temperatures is expected across large parts of northwest and central India over the next five days.
