GUWAHATI: In a bid to revolutionise voter education, the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Cell (SVEEP) of Kamrup Election District has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati to introduce an ingenious 3D printed dummy ballot unit.
Utilising cutting-edge 3D printing technology, researchers have fabricated the dummy ballot unit from PLA (polylactic acid) – a biodegradable and eco-friendly material derived from corn starch.
Remarkably, the device was designed and manufactured within just 48 hours, incorporating interactive features such as sound and light indicators to guide users through the voting process.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the picturesque IIT Guwahati campus on Monday, witnessed a gathering of esteemed dignitaries, including Keerthi Jalli, District Commissioner (DC) of Kamrup, Susanta Kumar Dutta, Additional District Commissioner, Kamrup and distinguished guests from various administrative circles and the institution.
