GUWAHATI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is set to host its 26th Convocation on July 14, featuring Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation, as the Chief Guest.
The event marks a significant milestone in the institute’s journey of academic excellence and research prowess.
Since its inception in 1999, IIT Guwahati has witnessed remarkable growth, with this year seeing the conferment of 2145 degrees, including 932 in Undergraduate programmes, 938 in Postgraduate programmes, and 275 in PhD programmes.
The institute continues to promote gender diversity, with 468 female students graduating this year.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed pride in the institution’s achievements, stating that this convocation underscores IIT Guwahati’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence and cutting-edge research.
“We take immense pride in our graduates, who continually showcase their dedication to progressing science and technology. We celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2024 and anticipate their future contributions to science, technology, and society,” he adds.
A highlight of this year’s convocation includes the graduation of students from diverse programmes such as MBA, MA in Liberal Arts, MDes in Electronic Product Design, M Tech in Bioengineering, M Tech in Biomedical Science and Engineering, and MS(R) in Polymer Science and Technology.
Notably, the event will also mark the first PhD student graduating from the Joint PhD programme in Food Science and Technology with Gifu University, Japan.
The convocation will feature prestigious awards, including 4 Gold Medals, such as the President’s Gold Medal and the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, alongside 16 Silver Medals recognising top performers across disciplines.
Additionally, 14 Best PhD Thesis Awards and 14 Best Master’s Thesis Awards will honour outstanding research contributions.
