GUWAHATI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has secured a prestigious position as one of the world’s leading universities for the study of Data Science and Petroleum Engineering.
The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a prominent global higher education analytics firm, identifies the best universities worldwide for 55 academic disciplines.
IIT Guwahati has showcased remarkable performance in Data Science, earning a global ranking of 51-70, and Petroleum Engineering, where it secured a global rank of 51-100.
Moreover, IIT Guwahati has showcased remarkable performance in broader subject areas, with notable improvements in several domains.
In the Engineering & Technology category, the institute has climbed to rank 210, up from rank 222 in the previous year.
Similarly, in Natural Science, IIT Guwahati has ascended to rank 343 from rank 379.
Additionally, the institute has secured a commendable position in Arts & Humanities, with a ranking of 510-550.
In a significant achievement, IIT Guwahati has been featured in the Arts & Humanities category for the first time in subjects like Business & Management Studies, and Agriculture & Forestry.

He also underscored the institute’s determination to further enhance its position in the rankings in the years to come.
Notably, several subjects at IIT Guwahati have seen an improvement in rank this year.
Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Economic & Econometrics have all witnessed positive shifts in their rankings.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject employ five key metrics, including reputation indicators based on surveys of academics and employers, citations per paper, H-Index, and international research network.
This year’s rankings also introduced a new academic discipline – Music.
